Confirm Firmware upgrade path: 5406zl from K.15.12.0012 to K.16.02.0032

Is it a straight upgrade (with multiple reboots) from K.15.12.xxxx to the latest K.16.02.xxxx or do I need K.15.15.0014 or K.15.16.xxxx in the middle?

The reason I ask is the K.16.01.0013 release notes say I need to go to K.15.15.xxxx first and then K.15.17 (which doesn't exist).  The fact that it doesn't exist means I can probably trust the release notes and go directly to K.16.02.xxxx.

But, release notes have had mistakes in them before. HP Procurve 5400 zl Series Switch - Upgrade Path to K.16.01.0004 (hpe.com)

So, thought I'd check here first.

Hello,

What is the device product number 'JXXXXX' ?

What is the bootrom version? Check via command: 'show flash'
Please go through release notes section 'Products supported' and 'Minimum supported software versions'.

If your device has lower bootrom version then K.12.17 then you need to follow upgrade paths.

For upgrade path, K.16.02.0032 uses BootROM K.15.30. Please check release notes 'Upgrade information' section on page.42

Thanks!

Re: Confirm Firmware upgrade path: 5406zl from K.15.12.0012 to K.16.02.0032

Hi!

The K.15.12.0012 software version should use the BootROM K.15.30 as per its Release Notes [*] (with this assumption I mean that if your HP 5400 zl Switch Series is running K.15.12.0012 then its BootROM should have been updated too and it should have been running on BootROM K.15.30 since the time it received the K.15.12.0012 software update).

Please verify the above assumption by reporting the outputs of show flash and show version CLI commands, as already suggested by @akg7 .

If the above assumption is true then, since the desired target version K.16.02.0032 uses BootROM K.15.30 too (as per its Release Notes, see below), the BootROM of your HP 5400 zl Switch Series is not going to receive any mandatory update during the K.15.12.0012 -> K.16.02.0032 upgrade procedure and, having no other particular prerequisite for this procedure (See Release Notes of K.16.02.0032 and the text notes on the Download Page here as references), you can upgrade directly into software version K.16.02.0032 from K.15.12.0012 without necessarily passing through specific interim software versions.

P.S. the K.15.17 software branch does exist (see here).

Edit [*]: the BootROM K.15.30 was initially introduced starting with K.15.12.0006 software version.

Thanks guys.  Looks like I'm good to proceed with direct to K.16.02.0032.  One last question, is the preference to update the secondary and boot from there or does it matter if I do primary first?  I'm guessing it doesn't matter.
