HP 2530-24-PoE+ (J9779A) Update Firmware Guide Needed

Got this unit recently as second hand, want to update the firmware on it. Currently at YA.16.05.0008, ROM YA.15.20.
Tried to use the GUI web and update it with the YB_16_10_0016.swi file found on the HPE website.

When uploading the file to either primary or secondary it says "An error occurred: Upload failed! Invalid image file"

What can be the problem ?

Unfortuently no, I get the samme error message on this file as well. Have also tried to update it with an older version of the YA.16.05.xxx software with the same result.

Hello ole1,

You may try step upgrade 16.05 >16.06 > 16.08>YA.16.10.

Also you may try CLI to upgrade.

Hope this helps!

I get the same result, when I tried the YB_16_06_0012.swi file on GUI web. When I used the CLI (trough network not serial) it come up with a 000M wrong file message. Used the command: "copy tftp flash 192.168.10.119 YB_16_06_0012.swi secondary"

Can see a screenshot of it on here: https://ibb.co/26jzGfL (did not manage to link it to the post)

Edit: Did it also trough the menu command and there it says that "Transfer aborted, wrong file"

Hello ole1,

Can you ping the tftp from the switch? is the file with the same name located in its TFTP directory? Is there a firewall on the PC from where you are trying to get the firmware - if the firewall is on please try without it.

Yes, there is no problems pinging the tftp machine from the switch and the firewall is off on the computer.
Have tried with two tftp server programs;  solarwinds tftp server and tftpd64.

Have a screen shoot of the log of the tftp64 here; it says "the existing connection was force closed by the external host" (in norwegian)

Hello ole1,

Could you please check if you have any authorised ip as mentioned on the following link:

https://techhub.hpe.com/eginfolib/Aruba/16.10/5200-6758/index.html#s_Configuring_IP_Authorized_Managers_for_the_switch.html

PS: on the following link useful options for an update of the firmware are listed:

Re: HP 2530-24-PoE+ (J9779A) Update Firmware Guide Needed

Hello

Based on this screenshot it looks you are providing wrong product number. Your switch is a gigabit switch (probably J9773A)

and it uses only YA firmware. YB versions are only for Fast Ethernet switches (10/100 for the client ports). You will get error messages if you try to upload an YB version to a Gigabit switch because they only accept YA.

So please try with different YA versions. You can downloade YA.16.10.0016 from here.

Thanks, that did the trick.

Was a bit paffled by the name difference, but after reading the realease notes I tought the file contained all the different 2530 versions. Thanks again!
