HP 2530 - 48 switch not running at gigabit speeds

Hi all,

I've setup a small office network for my business which uses a HP 2530 - 48 switch, however all the machines connected are only getting a 100Mbps connection speed.

The wiring is all cat6.

Any suggestions as to how to go about solving this? I have no idea how to log on to the switch to check the settings like I would with a router, I'm well versed in home networking and built our machines and server but this pro switch is a new thing to me.

I tried activating the usb port and installing a telnet program but I'm totally baffled, if there's an easier way that would be great.

Thanks.

Hi,

The 2530 series has Gigabit and FastEthernet models.

If your switch has the product number J9781A and product name HP 2530-48 Switch then this is FastEthernet switch and ports are limited to 100Mbps. Only the last 2 RJ45 ports support Gigabit.

Here is what the specifications state about this model

I/O ports and slots

48 RJ-45 autosensing 10/100 ports (IEEE 802.3 Type 10BASE-T, IEEE 802.3u Type 100BASE-TX); Duplex: half or full

2 autosensing 10/100/1000 ports (IEEE 802.3 Type 10BASE-T, IEEE 802.3u Type 100BASE-TX, IEEE 802.3ab Type 1000BASE-T); Duplex: 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX: half or full; 1000BASE-T: full only

2 fixed Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports
