HP 5406zl module removal problem

Hi,

I removed the module from bank E of my switch. The problem I have now, is that I cannot delete thoses ports from my configuration anymore, since the module is not present. Is there a way to force this, or is my only option to full the configuration and create a new one?

Thanks,

Re: HP 5406zl module removal problem

Save the running config, sftp the saved from the switch to a PC, edit as desired, sftp it back.

Disclaimer: I have not tried this on a 5406zl recently. On some switch models, it causes an immediate reboot with the new config. My 3400cl does this. I don't think a 5406zl will.  But schedule a downtime window anyway, to be sure. :-)

Hi Alex,

Thanks, it worked flawlessly...

Just weird that you need to but a number for the module and not a letter, since the show modules displays letters...

Thanks again...

Re: HP 5406zl module removal problem

I am having problems deleting modules from my HP 5406zl. At one time, I had mirror endpoint defined on the switch, but I have removed any trace of it, still the switch fails to remove a module, with the message "Mirror endpoint is configured".

I have tried to reboot the switch, but the module remains. What can I do?

(config)# no module 4
This command will shut down the specified modules and remove the configuration
from these modules and their ports. The ports on these modules will not pass
traffic including the management traffic like SSH, Telnet and SNMP. This
operation may take up to 2 minutes. Continue [y/n]? y
Mirror endpoint is configured.

Re: HP 5406zl module removal problem

FYI, because it is quite handy:

you don't need to type config terminal or conf t; config or conf will work just as well. (There are no other configure options anyway!)

You also don't need to exit to do a write memory / wr mem. You can do it from whatever level of the config you are in.

The "no module" feature is relatively recent (K15.??), and a great addition.
