Anyone know if it is possible to use 1GB SFP moduls in a 10GB SFP+ slot?
I have a 5406zl with SFP+-module J9538A. It works well with 10GB modules and DA-cables.
Recently I purchased a HP J4859C 1GB SFP-module (HPE X121) but I get an error when inserting it into the SFP+ module.
Is this supposed to work? I know our Ciscos readily eat 1GB modules in 10GB slots.
Transceiver Technical Information:

The following transceivers have extra information:

SolutionCheck that active System Image is at least K.15.02.0004 or newer (this is a requirement to grant the usage of J4859C into the J9358A 8 Ports 10 GbE SFP+ v2 zl Module): see here for details (Sheet 5).
Are you sure that your J4859C is really genuine?
Another source of information is this one: there is clearly stated that a "J4858C HP X121 1G SFP LC SX Transceiver connects fine when put in a HP 8-port 10-GbE SFP+ v2 zl Module (J9538A) in a 5406zl switch." instead it runs into an issue when it is moved into a J9993A v3 zl2 Module of an HPE 5400R zl2 chassis, indeed is reported that the same "J4858C HP X121 1G SFP LC SX Transceiver won't Connect when inserted in a HP J9993A 8p 1G/10GbE SFP+ v3 zl2 Module in a 5400R zl2 Switch.".

Re: HPE X121 1GB SFP module in 10GB SFP+ slot? ProCurve 5406zl
Thanks parnassus.
We use firmware 15.04.0003 so it should work.
The SFP module is a cheap knock-off, it is what I got when ordering from our procurement department. It is supposed to be J4859C-compatible. Guess it just plain isn't. Will try to get genuine, at least I now know they should work.

Yep I'm quite sure that being only J4859C compatible, from the PoW of HPE, it's definitely not enough: it's required a true genuine HPE part which, judging from the HP suggested price advertised here, looks not-so-cheap.

For the record:
Got original J4859C and they work fine in the SFP+ modules.
