Help error with module J9988a with my switch 5412RZl2 J9851a

Hello Everybody

I have some trouble with my new module J9988A (v3) HP 24p 1GbE SFP v3 zl2 Mod

It isn't recognized on my switch 5412R zl2 J9851a I think It is a V2 switch but Aruba tells me tat there is a compatibility between V2 chassis and V3 module

I have installed KB.16.02.0028, ROM KB.16.01.0006  I think it's the latest firmware but no luck

What you reported is pretty strange...the SKU J9988A is a v3 zl2 Module compatible with HP/Aruba 5400R zl2 switch series chassis either working in v2 Compatibility Mode or in v3-Only Mode (where here v2 and v3 refer to the version of zl and zl2 Modules families respectively)....more than that the KB.16.02.0028 software version your HP 5400R zl2 is running on is really recent and it supports all v2 zl and v3 zl2 Modules compatbile with HP/Aruba 5400R zl2 Switch series (figure out that the J9988A is supported since KB.15.17)...so it's really strange.

Can you post the sanitized logs - show logs (trim to post only Module insertion relevant) - which refer to Module insertion time? can you also post the output of show flash, show version and show modules commands?

A sanitized running configuration would be of help eventually.

Hello,
The message in the log means that slot A is currently configured for another type of module

W 0038:04:54:43.87 00072 chassis: AM1: Slot A Inactive: Module/Configuration mismatch

So probably you had a module of another type in slot A before, different than J9988A.
It is not necessary to reset the configuration. There is a procedure to change the slot configuration/type during normal operation.
Have a look at this document and try to procedure in the section "Resolution"
