How to upgrade software?

Hello,

I have been handed a number of 5412zl switches with outdated firmware/software.  The oldest is K.15.13.005 on a J8698A switch.  I need to update this to the most current version, which I believe is K.16.02.0032.

I come from a very Cisco-centric background and HP/Aruba is all new to me.

Do I need to upgrade these switches to every version between 15.13.0005 and 16.02.0032 one at a time, or can I skip some and get to 16.02 faster?  I can't find any documentation that answers this question.

Re: How to upgrade software?

Hello,

You are good to direct upgrade from K.15.13.005 to K.16.02.0032
I believe the device is running on Boot ROM Version : K.15.30
Check via 'show flash' command.

Please read below release notes before upgrade:

1. First copy current running version from primary to secondary or secondary to primary. This step to set a backup.
5412# copy flash flash (primary/secondary)

2. Copy new software to primary or secondary flash memory on active management module:

a. TFTP – 5412#copy tftp flash <TFTP IP add> K.16.02.0032.swi pri/sec

Or

b. USB – 5412#copy usb flash K.16.02.0032.swi pri/sec

3. Make sure boot setting is configured to boot to correct flash software was copied to.

a. 5412#boot set-default flash primary

b. 5412# write memory

4. At this point in time, you can simply reboot the whole switch from the primary or secondary depending on where the New FW was loaded.

#boot sys flash <pri/sec>

Thanks!
