Procurve 5406 POE Issue

Procurve 5406 POE Issue

have a 5406 running K15.16.0006, Boot Rom K15.30

Have 2 Power Supplies in it, 3 slots used, running Cisco 7942 & 7906 VOIP phones

The switch itself would have probably 50 VOIP max sets connected

Getting Denied Power Due to Insuccifient Power Allocations on particular ports on one J8702A module that only have 5 phones connected to it. Those 5 phone were rebooting on a regular basis today

Put replacement J8702A into empty slot in switch, moved phones over to that module & the issue went away

I'm sure someone has seen something similar

I'm wondering has anyone ever determined what is most likely be the actual cause of the issue or even how could you test

1) the actual J8702A module

2)  the actual slot in the 5406 switch that the module was in

3) a power supply issue

thanks

Re: Procurve 5406 POE Issue

Hello.  Hard to say though it points to the module.  Could you attach the output of "show tech all" to the post (with the suspect module inserted)?  There's some PoE info in there that may help diagnose it.

You can cut & paste the "show tech all" output into a file, or "copy command "show tech all" ...".

Thanks.

Put module back & ran the show tech all

too big to paste so I attached

Which slot is the suspect module in?  Also the one that you moved the phones to?  Thanks.

Re: Procurve 5406 POE Issue

Slot C was the bad one

Put new module in slot D & moved phones to it

Re: Procurve 5406 POE Issue

Looks like the module, there's plenty of power available.  Did you happen to try the module in another chassis?  That's the last thing we could try.

Otherwise you might look at getting a warranty replacement.
