RSTP? MSTP?
> try enabling RSTP
> then this is a problem with STP. [...] Try to set stp edge-port enable
are quotes from
http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/E-Series/switch-configuration-when-not-only-upstream/m-p/2333667#M115
http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/E-Series/4200G-needs-200-attempts-to-route/m-p/2328519#M90
As I really do not know what you are talking about, I have made screenshots of those pages in the switch configuration which contain the word STP. Please help by choosing the correct picture:
Port MSTP http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/7253/portmstp.png
Port MSTP Protection http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/7059/portmstpprotection.png

Port Administration http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/6787/portadministration.png
Device MSTP http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/2356/devicemstp.png
How do I have to configure the switch?
The current configuration is quoted here:

Thanks!

Re: RSTP? MSTP?
ony enable mstp. this should be enougth for 99% of all installations. MSTP is backward compatible to RSTP and STP.

Re: RSTP? MSTP?
Basically you don't need to touch default settings. Single vendor's MSTP works OK. You may have to change defaults on Procurve switches MSTP if:
1. You have links (trunks) faster than 10Gb
2. You have installed VRRP for master and backup core
3. You have other vendors switches connected
4. You have non-intelligentt (dumb) switches connected to port
5. You have hierarchical configuration involves core /distribution / aggregation switches
Read carefully this HP Procurve Configuration Note
Worthy reading.
