Switch Ports on 2920-24g-poe+ toggle on/off constantly

Hi, we have some HP 2920-24g-poe+ Switches showing that connected ports
are toggling on/off constantly. The Logs are showing:

10/16/18 08:52:43 00077 ports: port 9 is now off-line
10/16/18 08:52:46 00076 ports: port 9 is now on-line
10/16/18 08:53:27 00077 ports: port 9 is now off-line
10/16/18 08:53:30 00076 ports: port 9 is now on-line
10/16/18 09:09:50 00077 ports: port 9 is now off-line
10/16/18 09:09:52 00076 ports: port 9 is now on-line
10/16/18 09:10:41 00077 ports: port 9 is now off-line
10/16/18 09:10:42 00076 ports: port 9 is now on-line

All connected ports are affected.
Spanning Tree and Energy-Efficient-Ethernet is disabled.
Any Ideas how to fix this?

Re: Switch Ports on 2920-24g-poe+ toggle on/off constantly

Hi,

Firmware is 16.06.0006 - and connected devices are of all kinds from printers to "normal PCs" to virtual Desktop-Devices (which suffer the most from this issue).

I already changed the configuration from "auto" to "auto 100" and "auto 1000" with no effect. Changing to 100FDX causes RX/TX Errors.

Switches are monitored by an NAC, but I don┬┤t really know if this could be the reason...:-/

Speed and mode must match on both end

Yes, sure. Any other ideas why the ports turn on/off repeatedly?

Re: Switch Ports on 2920-24g-poe+ toggle on/off constantly

Hi,

when the connected Device is powered off, the port is going down until device is powered on again.

While testing this with a Laptop booting Windows, I recognized that the port is also going on/off several times during the windows boot process. Is this behaviour normal? The logs show:

I 11/07/18 08:52:24 00076 ports: port 7 is now on-line

Re: Switch Ports on 2920-24g-poe+ toggle on/off constantly

Yes, if i would wait an unknown amount of time, then it will occur in irregular intervals.

Normally, a user doesn┬┤t recognize this "toggling", except when working on one of our thin clients, where the desktop freezes and the user is - in worst case - kicked out of the session.
