Switch meshing with VRRP

Hi guys,

is a meshed switch be able to do VRRP and ip forwarding adn routing?

I have two 5406 zl as core and 3 X 2650 hp procurve switches. I would like to mesh the switches and to configure VVRP as well.

If your 5400s are v3, you'd be better off stacking them.

But either way, you can setup your 5400s as a VRRP pair, that's easy enough.

Then you can setup your 2650s with an uplink to each 5400. You can either use STP to manage the redundant links, or you can use split trunking.

Thanks for your reply. I attached the topology. Actually we have a  Trunk link between the core switches. and redundant connections between core and 2650s. We use already the STP to manage redundant links. The issue is that the overall network is becoming slow and I assume that I may avoid STP and use Mesh or to use VRRP. 

which one is preferable to increase the throuput as well as the convergence?

-The other issue which I forgot to mention is that we have a bottleneck on the link to the cisco router. Is that correct?#

That's why I thought we could use 5406zls to perform routing.

You need to measure congestion on all your links to answer that question.

Are your links 1Gb or 10Gb links?

Don't go planning any design changes unless you have utilisation stats for all those links - we have no way of knowing what your traffic flows are.

Procurve 2650s and 2848 do not support 10G unfortunately. That means the links are 1 Gb.

Can you explain some possible scenarios regarding the performance. 

we have 55 lan cables for servers (2 cables per server)

15 LAN for ilo and 40 LAN to the desktops.

Well, for example, if the Cisco router is there just for a 10Mb WAN link, then it doesn't really matter where you put it, although it should really be on the 5400 switch core.

The link between the two 5400s should be at least 2x 10Gb links though.
