Vlan 50 with ip address and no untagged ports

Hi all,

I am having this situation and I don´t  know if it have sense.

In HP 8206zl switch I have one VLAN (between others) like this:

vlan 50

ip address 192.168.50.1 255.255.255.0

untagged ethernet A1

exit

*Interface A1 has no ethernet connected. It is empty.

If I made a "ping" to the ip address 192.168.50.1 from other machine in the network it answers ICMP.

But...if I quit the port A1 from vlan 50, and I put untagged on VLAN1  the ip 192.168.50.1 does not respond.

¿It´s normal? This IP address is gateway for one server in my network and pass through interface A20-A24 (trunk trk1).

Thanks in advance,

Txomin

Hi, can you clarify "...from other machine in the network" part?

Sure!

A machine located in one switch attached to this one by an LACP trunk.

Re: Vlan 50 with ip address and no untagged ports

On some switches it's normal for a L3 interface to go down, if there's no single port in the VLAN active.

otoh, this shouldn't happen when VLAN 50 is active on a trunk to another switch.
