error spawning telnet tasks

Hello,

I came in this morning to find 2 of my switches were not fully working, i could not http or telnet to them.

When I tried to telnet to one of them i got:

Sorry, error spawning telnet tasks.

Connection to host is lost.

Only way to clear this is to reboot the switch and all is good.

Network has been up fine for 4 months then this out the blue.

Switches were 2510G-48.

Thanks,

Re: error spawning telnet tasks

Just a thought - there will be a limitation on the maximum number of concurrent telnet sessions. If you have not configured an idle-timeout for telnet (not sure if it is by default) and you close terminal windows without logging off (or an intermediate firewall drops the connection due to inactivity), the session can remain open on the switch. Once all available VTY lines are busy, you will not be able to establish another and will need to power reset the device to clear existing sessions. Avoid it by ensuring an idle-timeout is configured.
