Re: Autoloader 1/8 Vs 80
the capacity 80GB is when the data is compressed with the ideal factor 2:1 !
the real capacity is 40GB.
this compression 2:1 is used by all tapes, like DAT, DLT, LTO ,SLR etc. .

Re: Autoloader 1/8 Vs 80
the compression is enabled by default of all HP (and other) drives.
The compression is in conjunktion with the data you want to backup.
Office Files (*.dox, *.xls etc) are good to compress but files like *.exe or *.dll etc. you can not compress.
When I backup my data I write ca. 55GB on my 80GB DLT Media, a mix of fullbackup from OS-system and User Data.

My device is autoloader storage 1/8 vs80, backup system is Arcserve 9, I never saw the data storage was over 40G whthin on one Tape, my tape is HP DLT 40/80G.
Somebody told me that this device is not support to compress the data because of its characteristic, is it true?
