DLT Autoloader Setup
Greetings! :)
Our company is converting from an HPUX 10 "K" server to an HPUX 11 "L" server. I need information on software (mainly HPUX) installation needed to attach an 8000 DLT autoloader (HP) to this machine. This is how far I am : The autoloader is attached to the machine, I have created the "/dev/picker" driver and confirmed that it does work. Loading/unloading media, etc works fine. What else do I need to do before I load OMNIBACK to use this device? Currently on the "K" box we have OMNIBACK loaded and running. I have ASCII dumps of the database and am aware that I will need to reconfigure the drive after I import the ASCII dump. Any help is appreciated, thanks! :)

Re: DLT Autoloader Setup
Hi there.
If your setup is ok that far,
try a tar or cpio to this tape.
If that works, you should be able to install OmniBack and run it without problems.
I hope, the autoloader has it's own interface ?

Re: DLT Autoloader Setup
First, yes, the autoloader has its own card :)
Second, I used Sam and backed up files to the drive successfully. Looks like I'm ok to load OMNIBACK then? Thanks for you help! :)
Robert
PS: here are my results from SAM.
Starting interactive backup...
br_backup: Invoking fbackup. See /var/sam/log/br_log for details.
fbackup(1421): no history is available for graph file /etc/sam/br/graphZCAa02189
(below level 0)
fbackup(1004): session begins on Mon Mar 25 09:36:16 2002
fbackup(3205): WARNING: unable to read a volume header
fbackup(3024): writing volume 1 to the output file /dev/rmt/0mnb
1: / 2
2: /etc 12
3: /etc/hosts 2
fbackup(1005): run time: 11 seconds
fbackup(3055): total file blocks read for backup: 16
fbackup(3056): total blocks written to output file /dev/rmt/0mnb: 39
fbackup(1030): warnings encountered during backup

Re: DLT Autoloader Setup
Hi there.
Sorry for late reaction, but i have been on a vacation.
That looks ok to me, so by now you should be running OmniBack without a problem.
Just some numbers with DLT libs :
backing up 430 GB in 3 hrs on 5 drives !!
( 45 filesystems on a UNIX machine )
:-)
