Storage Boards Cleanup
To make it easier to find information about HPE Storage products and solutions, we are doing spring cleaning. This includes consolidation of some older boards, and a simpler structure that more accurately reflects how people use HPE Storage.

Firmware upgrade failure on Autoloader 718

I am using LTT 4.2. I have an Autoloader 718 and a DLT-VS80 installed on my backup server running Windows 2003 R2 64-bit. The Autoloader is external, VS80 is internal, they are connected to separate SCSI cards. The VS80 is runnng fine. When doing firmware upgrade to the autoloader, it gives "Unrecovered I/O error. I/O Exception (Sense Key. 5, Sense Code: 0x248F - 'Bad controller image EDC')...SCSI Cmd I/O at 4/0.0.0 Write Buffer.
I am running BackupExec 11d on this server, when doing any backup, the job simply issues "Warning - The tape drive has a problem with the host interface: 1. Check the cables and cable connections. 2. Restart the operation" The job will then ends with "Final error: 0xe00084ed - A hardware error occurred.". These errors were written in the event logs:
Adamm Mover Error: Write Failure! Error ERROR_IO_DEVICE
Drive = "QUANTUM 1"
{5E68F3F0-2578-4F13-8488-E9785083B6A5}
Media = "Set 2 Tape 2"
{E602F6F5-3FF1-4A49-B46C-1CB31A833A4B}
Read Mode: SingleBlock(0), ScsiPass(0)
Write Mode: SingleBlock(1), ScsiPass(1)

The Autolader has been running fine on the other old server (LH6000r)before I transferred it (since it is external drive, I just reconnect the SCSI cable to the new server).

Re: Firmware upgrade failure on Autoloader 718

I can't tell what the problem is from these errors. The best I can offer is carefully check all of the cables and terminator. The best way to connect is HBA->library controller->drive->terminator.

If you can run L&TT http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools and pull a support ticket then post it here. Support tickets with the latest L&TT are single compressed files but if you have an older version please zip all the files in the output directory.
