HP StorageWorks DLT VS80 - Drive stops

Hi we have been running the above for six months without a problem. It has just started producing a problem whereby the just drive stops or backup takes an exceedingly long time. No errors are generated in the W2K event logs, or in tape tools (version 3.4). Firmware is 5538.

Windows 2000 adv server, Backupexec 9 on an HP Netserver E800, Adaptec AIC-7892 ultra 160/m SCSI card.

HELP!

Re: HP StorageWorks DLT VS80 - Drive stops

After power cycling the drive, it started a cleaning cycle which finished with "ERROR! code 89" showing on the front panel.

Re: HP StorageWorks DLT VS80 - Drive stops

Tim,

You have the 1/8 Autoloader, correct?

Error 89 is a timeout error. The first thing I would check is the SCSI cables. If there appears to be no issue there, try running the diagnostic system test, and see if error 89 comes up there. If so, the unit may have a drive going bad.

Hi,

I agree with Seth

Also, try the ff. for isolation:

- Update your tape driver using Veritas Backupexec device driver installer (see below) Just make sure your using BENT90 rev. 4454 and not 4367.

Re: HP StorageWorks DLT VS80 - Drive stops

You will wnat to update the drivers for your controller - go to www.adaptec.com - go tto the 29160 family series and for windows 2000 update the drivers and services pack (one download) the update was released on 08/11/2003 - you should find that the issue will go away

cheers

Re: HP StorageWorks DLT VS80 - Drive stops

Hi Tim,

As has been mentioned before, you have a SCSI issue. Check your SCSI for any missing or bent pins. Recede it. If you've a spare, swap it.

Good luck. Hope this helps you.
