Question about StorageWorks MSL2024

Hello.
On StorageWorks MSL2024 LTO-4 Ultrium with SCSI connector (AJ819A) can I connect two servers (with two different SCSI connectors)?
Thanks!

Re: Question about StorageWorks MSL2024

SCSI allows that type of configuration but it is almost never successful so I wouldn't recommend attempting it.

Whether it can be made to work is OS and HBA dependent as all HBA's default to SCSI ID 7 and the OS or HBA BIOS would have to allow that value to be changed.

Re: Question about StorageWorks MSL2024

One drive or two in the library?

With recent firmware, the MSL G3 series supports partitioning the library in the GUI. If you have two drives in the library, you can create two 1-drive, 12-slot libraries, and connecting one server to each drive.

The partitioning is done through the library web GUI.

Re: Question about StorageWorks MSL2024

If you have two drives the method the previous posted mentioned is supported and works nicely but it doesn't allow two servers to share a tape drive. With partitioning each server is assigned a tape drive (or several tape drives in larger libraries) and a set of slots for exclusive use by that server.
