arcserve 6.61 with surestore 818 autoloader

Hello,

Every time we try to run a backup job the tape drive gives us the following error message:
"Hardware err 64h DRIVE_S_CMD_TOUT"
On the ARCserve activity log, it displays the following error message:
"E6300 Windows NT SCSI PORT Error [ABSL:3000 CMD:0h] SCSI Command Retry"

SCSI command 0 is called 'test unit ready'. Try installing and testing autoloader with HP LTT http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html

Re: arcserve 6.61 with surestore 818 autoloader

The hardware error 64H indicates that the drive did not complete the requested command in the timeout period. The timeouts on the 818 are very long so this error usually means that the drive is not responding at all.

If you could run the LTT utility and attach a zipped support ticket it would help to diagnose the problem.

The most common cause of this error is that a damaged tape has been loaded into the drive causing the drive to drop it's leader. If this error is occuring on an unload try the "EMERGENCY UNLOAD" option in the front panel and see if you can get the tape out then do a visual inspection of the tape and the drive to check for a dropped leader. If you look in the drive and don't see what looks like a piece of tape attached to a hook, then the leader is dropped and the drive must be replaced.
