Exchange test

I??d like to build a test environment for Exc 5.5 in a different server. I wonder if i should configure the test server as a member server of the domain of the prod server or on a different domain and then establish links, perhaps using trusted relations. The main idea is to restore backup tapes on the test server and recreate recovery scenarios. Any advice would be appreciated.
