HPE Adaptive Backup and Recovery: A modern approach to intelligent, adaptable data protection

Our customers and analysts universally agree that the old ways to address common IT issues no longer work. The shift to digital business requires not only new and smarter technologies, but also new thinking and approaches. No longer is it viable to be just adding more storage when running out of capacity, increasing the network bandwidth to improve application performance, keeping all data forever, and deploying workload specific backup applications if backup windows expand – in today’s environment.

At Hewlett Packard Enterprise we believe that a modern backup and recovery solution must not only reliably protect data but must also provide capabilities to analyse and classify it before it is backed up, then optimize backup processes to create a healthy and efficient environment. Using analytics to derive data insights is key to address these challenges.  The data backup process itself captures a great deal of information about the data itself. Leveraging this knowledge can add value to enterprises. Operational analytics, which has been an overlooked area in backup until now, can make the data protection process more efficient, cost-effective, and reliable. Read IDC’s latest report on the strategic role that data protection plays in the age of digital transformation.

This week HPE announced an Adaptive Backup and Recovery Suite, an integrated portfolio that uses operational and file analytics to automate and streamline data protection. The suite delivers on our  vision to bring information insight into the end-to-end backup and recovery process by combining HPE Storage Optimizer, HPE Data Protector and HPE Backup Navigator with modern information optimization, analytics, and protection tools to efficiently safeguard enterprise data across disparate repositories and locations. Let’s look at the role each of these software products plays in the data protection cycle:

Storage Optimizer combines file analytics and policy-based storage tiering to analyze data to better understand what it is, how often it is accessed and where it resides in the production storage tier. It identifies hot data that needs to be kept based on its business value, and ROT data that can be archived, and tiers it appropriately, reducing storage footprint and management complexity.

Data Protector, our core protection engine, provides comprehensive, centrally-managed high-performance backup and recovery. With one of the industry’s broadest support matrixes, many leading integrations for mission critical applications and enterprise scalability, Data Protector allows users to consolidate and standardize back and recovery in order to reduce cost and complexity.

Backup Navigator provides an insight into the backup operation to make the process smarter and more efficient by trending and analyzing backup and recovery events, tracking backup success, error rates, health statistics and backup capacity metrics.

We will continue to deliver innovation and differentiation for all products to evolve and advance the capabilities of the ABR Suite. For more information, go to the Adaptive Backup and Recovery page.
