Information Governance: Proactive InfoGov – A Key to Streamlining eDiscovery and Investigations

JoeGarber ‎01-29-2014 02:34 PM - edited ‎01-31-2014 09:17 AM

LegalTech New York is nearly upon us, one of the largest technology events of the year for legal practitioners.  One of the big themes for HP at the event this year will be proactive information governance (InfoGov).

It seems that everywhere I go recently; organizations want to know more about InfoGov and what benefits it can provide.  I just participated in a well-attended TweetChat on the subject earlier in the week and discussed this topic in depth during an interview at HP Barcelona last month.

While it’s certainly true that the definition of InfoGov has evolved over the years – focusing on more types of data and solving more problems than just legal & compliance challenges – it is important to remember that eDiscovery remains a key beneficiary from sound information governance practices.  By taking back control of your data, you can lower risk of accidental data spoliation, minimize the chance of inadvertent data leaks, dramatically streamline processing and review, and much more.  I recently wrote an article for the Argyle Executive Forum titled “The Benefits of Information Governance to eDiscovery” if you’re interested in learning more.

Because of this overlap between organizational needs and HP’s strengths in delivering technology and process to solve these problems, HP will naturally highlight our InfoGov vision, as well as our key market offerings that underpin this vision (Enterprise Content Management, Information Archiving, and of course eDiscovery), and complimentary services from HP Enterprise Services all week.  Stop by our booth, #110, to learn more.  We’ll regularly have presentations on proactive information governance at the booth, and will also highlight this topic in in many other formats throughout the event.

To learn more about HP’s presence at LegalTech and the speaking sessions we’ll be leading while we’re there, click here.  In particular, note the (CLE eligible) session titled “Is the best defense a good offense? How to proactively manage information governance to control eDiscovery” that takes place from 10:30 – 11:45 AM on February 4.  Panelists will include:

  • Barry Murphy, Co-Founder, Principal Analyst, eDJ Group, Inc.
  • Bennett B. Borden, Co-chair of the Information Governance and eDiscovery Group, Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP
  • Jason R. Baron, Information Governance and eDiscovery Group, Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP

LegalTech takes place February 4-6 at the The Hilton New York, 1335 Avenue of Americas, New York.  We hope to see you there.
