This week, Labs is headed to Austin for the annual South by Southwest conference.

During SXSW Interactive, March 11 to 14, we will be at the Fast Company Grill hosting panels and discussions that address the effects of technology on society.

We will present engaging installations that showcase our solution to the data deluge: The Machine.

A lighted installation illustrates how we are transforming the future of computing and of the Internet of Things (IoT) with The Machine. Upon entering the space, attendees will see “HPE green” light propagate throughout the structure to symbolize the transfer and sharing of data insights between a mesh of connected nodes, just like it would on a miniscule scale in a real Distributed Mesh Computing (DMC) network powered by The Machine.

We will also introduce the life-size coloring book mural designed by Austin artist Will Bryant that illustrates the Living Progress Challenge, a socially-driven program with a goal of improving the lives of 1 million people by 2020. We look forward to showing SXSW attendees how technology can serve as a positive force for change – and to seeing them finishing the mural by coloring it in.

Finally, we have set up a GIF photo booth. We are even debuting a new cocktail – The Machine. (This is Austin after all.)

Closing the Digital Divide at the panel “Making Progress:  How Data and Technology are Accelerating Social Good.” What are the factors that helped create it; what can technology do to reduce it and conversely; what are some of the hardest areas for technology to have an effect? We will explore the idea that to close the digital divide we must manage the data deluge. Saturday, 2:45 PM CST

The Future of the Past at the panel “The Human Touch:  How to Make Big Data Personal,” with Labs researcher Tomer Sagi. As we continue to create more and more data, what can we actually take and learn from it to become smarter and better as a society? What are the ramifications of this from a security and privacy perspective? Sunday, 1:45 PM CST

Beyond the Cloud at the panel “Beyond the Cloud:  Exploring our Hyper-Connected Future” with Labs Chief Architect and HPE Fellow Kirk Bresniker. Our insatiable demand for all things digital, combined with trends such as IoT, the cloud has become our default answer for modern computing needs. But what comes next? Monday, 1:45 PM CST

If you’re in town, tweet us at @HPE, using the hashtag #FCGrill, and we’ll reach out with RSVP details.

If you’re unable to make it, follow the Labs Twitter account, @HPE_Labs, and #FCGrill hashtag to keep current and check back here for a full recap when events conclude.

See you in Austin!
