Embedding security into the core of a future data-centric world is the focus of a June 12th presentation at HP Discover 2013 in Las Vegas by HP Labs security expert Nigel Edwards.

The explosion of complexity and scale that accompanies the evolution of IT raises a host of new security and management challenges.

“These challenges are compounded by our need to operate across enterprise, regulatory and geographic boundaries, all in the context of an increasingly complex threat environment,” says Edwards, a member of HP’s Security and Cloud Lab based in Bristol, UK.

In his talk, Edwards will examine the existing adversary threat ecosystem facing enterprises, and will share HP’s vision for future security technologies that can disrupt this ecosystem – from embedded security control points within devices to high-level models of cross-boundary automated management, and even novel methods to detect and mitigate attacks at massive scale.

“While it’s impossible to create systems that are 100% guaranteed to be secure, there’s a lot that we can do to provide our customers with assurance, insight and control in this new world,” Edwards suggests.

Edwards is a researcher in HP’s Security and Cloud Lab, where he is investigating methods for detecting malware. Since joining HP in 1988, Edwards has worked on a variety of security and distributed system projects within product divisions and HP Labs, including taking HP's first Utility Computing product (UDC) into production with its first customer and leading the Secure Linux (HP-LX) product team.  Edwards holds a PhD from the University of Bristol, UK.

Discover attendees can attend Edwards’ talk on Wednesday, June 12th, 4:30 – 5:30 pm, in the Venetian Ballroom A on Level 2.
