Rares Vernica interviewed by Romanian TV

A couple of weeks ago a cameraman and a journalist from the state Romanian Television came to Palo Alto to interview HP Labs research scientist and native of Romania Rares Vernica. The ambitious documentary project the TV crew is working on will provide in-depth and wide-ranging profiles of a number of Romanian nationals and research scientists living in the United States who have achieved significant results in their fields. The documentary will be released in the fall.

Rares.jpgRares Vernica is a member of the Printing and Content Delivery Lab. He joined Labs in September of 2011 after earning his Ph.D. in computer science at the University of California Irvine. While in graduate school he interned with Yahoo, Microsoft and IBM. He got his BS also in computer science in 2004 from the prestigious Polytechnic University of Bucharest.

Vernica’s research group at HP Labs focuses on personality customized content. His particular expertise is in large-scale data management and systems scalability issues, e.g. when a new system needs to run in parallel on multiple computers and/or in the cloud.
