BL460c Gen10 - Memory Configuration Reccomendation

Hello,

i am planning to purchase 4x BL460c Gen10 Servers for a VMware vSphere 6.5 HA Cluster.
I need about 384GB Memory per Server.
If i use the HPE Memory Configurator i am getting two Options:
- 2x Processors and 6x 32GB Modules for each Processor
- 2x Processors and 3x 64GB Modules for each Processor

Because i want to have max. Performance i read several Gen10 Guides.
I read there are six "Memory Channels" and two "Memory Controller" for each Processor.

So the big question is, is there more Performance if i use 32GB Modules  (instead of 64GB) and use all six Channels? Or will the Performance Gain not noticable?
The Disadvantage using 32GB Modules will be, that i am not able to add additional Memory if needed.

Thanks!

Kind Regards
Marco

Re: BL460c Gen10 - Memory Configuration Reccomendation

Hello,

Optimal memory performance is achieved when the system is configured with a fully homogeneous and balanced memory configuration.

Each processor socket contains six memory channels that support one or two DIMMs each for a total of eight (8) DIMMs per installed processor or a grand total of sixteen (16) DIMMs for the server blade. In these servers, one channel on each side of the CPU has two slots attached, while the remaining channels on each side of the CPU have only one slot attached.

with 384 GB system memory :

2x Processors and 6x 32GB Modules for each Processor and 2x Processors and 3x 64GB Modules for each Processor both Memory Config are blanced and provide same Performance.

However the 64GB is a LRDIMM and 32GB is a RDIMM in this case.
