BL860c server health led amber indicating.

Hi All,

We have a C7000 Blade enclosure with 3 BL860c blades.

On the first blade Server Health LED amber indicating.

On the Third blade there is 2 SAS discs. One of them SAS disc LED green indicating.

Kindly give me your valuable suggestion what is it indicating and how to resolve it?

Please refer any documents related to server maintenance.

Thanks in Advance
Sandeep.

Re: BL860c server health led amber indicating.

amber = You have some issues with blade, usually HW. You have to check machine logs etc..

green = when disk is online it shows green light and it even blinks during disk I/O

Re: BL860c server health led amber indicating.

Hi Sandeep,

The system LED amber color means there are some MP events which needs a user attention The attention will go only and only if the condition is cleared and the event logs are read using the iLO/MP command SEL. The events are normally of 3 types.

1. Hardware issues like memory errors, cooling fan failures or predictive failures, system rebooted due to a hardware failure etc.

2. Environmental issues like power failed, high temperature etc.

3. Software/firmware issues like OS crashed, firmware couldnt determine an event etc.

You may log a case with HP for this if you are not sure of any known incidents. They will surely help you out.

For the SAS disk LED issue:

There are 2 LEDs on the disk.If u r facing the server, the left hand side is the activity LED and the right hand side is the status LED. Which one is blinking in green and what is the status of the other?

If the right one is off and the left one is flashing, it is a normal operation or disk rebuild. If the right one is flashing amber and the left one is flashing green, it is a predictive failure for the drive.

Re: BL860c server health led amber indicating.

You should review the MP logs for any high level messages. Reading them will toggle the LED off.

If there is no LED activity on this disk, it is probably doing nothing, not configured at all.

What OS?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: BL860c server health led amber indicating.

Hi,

For Server Health LED;

We will log a case with HP for this issue.

Kindly give your add-ons on the iLO/MP,How to check events logs or suggest me any notes on this.

For SAS disk LED issue;
There are 2LEDs on the disk and both blinking green. We have to other two blades on the same enclosure but there SAS disks blinking yellow.

We did not perform any events like reboot, or any failure etc├в ┬ж

Backside of enclosure fan is also running on high speed. (There is total 10 fans(5 on upper side and 5 on lower side)1st fan from upper and lower side are running on high speed. Other 2 fan is working normal. Rest 2 is on very low speed)

We are maintaining server room temperature 22 Celsius.

Is any issue with temperature? What is the ideal temperature for server room?

O.S. HP-UX Itanium 11.31

Thanks
Sandeep.

Re: BL860c server health led amber indicating.

The blade itself has no clue about fans at all. Ask the OA about power and fans.

Regarding the disks, run

# sasmgr get_info -D /dev/sasd0 -q raid

to get the status.

Read the Logs by either connecting to the iLO via browser or telnet/ssh:

MP MAIN MENU:

CO: Console

VFP: Virtual Front Panel

CM: Command Menu

SMCLP: Server Management Command Line Protocol

CL: Console Log

SL: Show Event Logs

HE: Main Help Menu

X: Exit Connection

MP> sl

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: BL860c server health led amber indicating.

Hi Sandeepji,

For the SAS drive, both LEDs blinking green is not a valid condition.

Please see the section 'front panel LEDs' under 'troubleshooting'in th user service guide.

For the attentio LED, collect and share the SL from the blade (not for the enclosure) to me, as below:

Please login to the LAN console using its IP address thro' Hyper terminal application.
Please enable the text capturing to capture the logs:
MP Login: Admin
MP Password: Admin
MP>sl
e => For selecting System Events
d => To dump the output; If it is asking to confirm press "y"
q => Quit
