BL870c i2 blades

Customer just received the above blades which are linked together with the bladelink option. They are sitting in slots 2 and 3 and a SB40c sits in slot 9. The blade has 2 internal sas disks. When we go into EFI we only see BLKx devices and no FSx devices. Also during the init it says the p410i is in HBA mode? I suspect the FAT32 driver did not get loaded so it can see the disks as FSx device. How do we load the driver? And what is HBA mode?

Re: BL870c i2 blades

If the firmware is current, the controller can have either HBA or RAID mode.

In HBA mode the system can access the disks directly, in RAID mode they are hardware mirrored and you can access the logical drive.

You will see fs0: or something only if there is already an OS installed.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: BL870c i2 blades

Where should the internal sas disks be installed? In the monarch blade or the one in slot 3. Also the customer mounted a virtual install cd and that showed up as a BLK device after the customer did a map -r in EFI. The blade support group have called out the motherboard and the ICH Mezz Card. But I'm not convinced we have a hardware issue.

Re: BL870c i2 blades

I would put the disks in the monarch, but it doesn't matter AFAIK.

What installation CD (OS) do you use?

Hope this helps!

Re: BL870c i2 blades

They are going to install HP-UX. I suspect that there is no OS loaded on the sas disks if we do not see FSx devices as you mentioned. Reading the service manual it talks about using a USB DVD and then doing a Map to see the dvd and going from there. If he connects a virtual CD will that work to load the os?

Re: BL870c i2 blades

Regarding the partner blade please check and compare with

"Scaleable BladeLink bay location rules"

in User Service Guide.

Re: BL870c i2 blades

IT says on the order it is a "Even" link so I must have a AD399-60010 which means that the monach has to be in a even slot which it is...slot 2

Re: BL870c i2 blades

Right, the guide says

with SBL2E AD399-60010

Bays 2&3, 4&5
or 6&7 with
monarch blade
in even bay

partner blade (SB40c)

Odd bottom
half-height bay
adjacent to
monarch blade.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Hi Santakh,

>>>If he connects a virtual CD will that work to load the os?

Are you referring to Virtual Media that you use on your client system to connect to the remote server? If yes, you should be able to load the OS using this.
