Bladesystem Firmware Tool 1.60 - black screen?

When the ISO boots from virtual media, after "Loading initrd.gz......ok" nothing happens, I just get a black display in iLO.

Also tried a locally attached monitor, same result.

MD5 checksum is ok.

Server is BL495c G5.

Re: Bladesystem Firmware Tool 1.60 - black screen?

Same happened to me.
Server Bl460c G6 with 96GB RAM. All the other servers work fine.

But FW update CD 8.60 worked fine =)

Re: Bladesystem Firmware Tool 1.60 - black screen?

You're right on Jarkko.

1.60 runs fine on other similar servers, and 8.60 works on this server.

Only problem for me is that 1.60 updates the power management controller while 8.60 does not.

Re: Bladesystem Firmware Tool 1.60 - black screen?

Do You have 64GB RAM or more ? Previous FW CDs had a bug which failed the boot in machines which had >64GB RAM

Re: Bladesystem Firmware Tool 1.60 - black screen?

The failing server has 64GB.

Just tried another server with 64GB, same result.

Is there a workaround besides removing memory? Is this bug documented anywhere?

Come on HP!

Re: Bladesystem Firmware Tool 1.60 - black screen?

So they solved the firmware CD but left the firmware tool in the dust...great.

I did not find any way to use the workaround described. Could not get into textmode before the black screen.

Re: Bladesystem Firmware Tool 1.60 - black screen?

It's an ugly workaround, but right after the server completes POST, the FDT will present a boot prompt before everything goes dark. In this four second window, you can type the following command if the server has more than 64GB of memory:

hp_memcap=1

The alternative is to remove memory in the server until there is less than 64GB.

This issue will be fixed in the next release of the FDT.

Re: Bladesystem Firmware Tool 1.60 - black screen?

If I type this before the screen goes black, it just says Could not find kernel image hp_memcap=1.
