C3000 Enclosure on mixed power inputs (110v/220v)

Norman had a customer question on BladeSystem c3000 enclosures:

************

Customer is installing C3000 enclosure into datacenter with 110V today. Power to rack cabinets to be upgraded to 220V soon.

Will the customer have to power down C3000 enclosure and servers when transitioning power cords?

Not sure if the enclosure’s power fabric can support mixed power inputs to facilitate a live migration.

Since each is an individual power auto ranging supply, it should probably not make a difference.

I think you would want to have your N+1 power supply redundancy enabled and then systematically remove power from a power supply, replace it with the 220VAC line, and then do the next one. 110VAC reduces the available wattage to half of the rated wattage so make sure you have enough so the enclosure doesn't begin turning off servers due to not enough power being available. The issue may be whether you are using a PDU to distribute power or plugging in power cables separately.
