Can I install c3000 components while the system is online?

Got a new blade and a couple new power supplies, and would like to know if I can simply insert this into my c3000 enclosure without having to take everything offline first. Couldn't find the answer after a bit of searching. Anyway, figured it would save some time after hours if I could.

Thanks

hi,

i think if you can replace the Power Supply online, so you could also add it.

Re: Can I install c3000 components while the system is online?

It is OK to add new components (i.e. pwr supps, IC Modules, OA's, blades, etc) to a running enclosure if you are putting them in empty slots/bays.

If you are removing/replacing items, then it is not so clear.

Power Supps. Must ensure that there is enough Power remaining after removing Power Module, to support the installed blades and modules.

InterConnect Modules. These are usually in use, however it depends on your configuration and how much redundancy you have. Note there is not much redundancy in a c3000.

Blades. This is pretty obvious. Shut down and power off before removing.

Dave.

Everything with burgundy (Wine red) release buttons, can be hot what ever you want to do.
In the Compaq/HP HW world.

Alan,

add power supplies first, then the new blades
because the new blades might not power up untill there is enough available power in the enclosure to allow the new blades to power up.

Thanks a lot for the excellent answers. I figured it should be okay, but I wasn't about to take a chance without knowing for sure.

I didn't know that the burgundy release buttons indicated the item is hot, very helpful bit of knowledge.
