Determining Sufficient Enclosure Power for Additional Blade Servers

Client's environment consists of -

- 3 X p-Class enclosures (BL Enclosure G2).

- 19 BL20p G3 blades. Leaving 5 unpopulated blade bays.

- 2 X 3U 3-phase power enclosures (Power Enclosure G1) with 6 power supplies each.

The blade and power enclosures are connected with a mini-bus bar.

AC Power redundant.

Most blades are dual-CPU, 2 146GB HDDs, 4-8GB RAM.

I am trying to determine if there is enough unused power capacity to purchase additional BL20p blades.

Anyone have a similair configuration?

I have tried using the HP BladeSystem Sizer 2.2, but it is complex and unstable.

Can someone recommend a better suited tool?

Thanks!

Re: Determining Sufficient Enclosure Power for Additional Blade Servers

Thanks Oleg.

Looks like this power configuration has more than enough unused capacity for additional 20p blades.

According to the Planning Guide, this configuration should support almost 50 blades in total.

Do the p-Class blades and powere enclosures provide a software interface view current/present power usage or set power limits, similiar to the c-Class OA web-interface?

Re: Determining Sufficient Enclosure Power for Additional Blade Servers

p-Class is less advanced compare to c-Class
Most resourceful tools: Hyper Terminal to primary Power enclosure you can keep serial cable connected all time or connect only when needed.
Also: Rack View â ILO and System Management Home Page â Enclosure Info
The only settings that you can manage with p-class, power source and auto on.
