Enclosure Fan Firmware on the C7000
Timur had a question when upgrading the firmware for the c7000 fans:
*************************************************************************************
One of our customers wants to baseline their firmware.. Fan Firmware in the C7000 enclosure for some is 2.7.4 and for others is 2.9.4 ... He wants to make sure everything is at the same level. Is this normal? We already these commands without any luck:
“update device fan”.
“update device force fan”.
**************************************************************************************
Jeroen chimed in:
*******************************************************************************************
Have you tried: update device FAN all ?
*************************************************************
Timur replied that he had and it did not modify all the fan firmware to the same revision level.
To which Jeroen respnded:
********************************************************************************
Then its simple: then it might be a fan from maybe a different vendor/revision that doesn’t need a FRU FW update.
***************************************************************************
Have you seen this behaviour? Let us know how you handles it.

Re: Enclosure Fan Firmware on the C7000
Monty also provided some info:
***************************************************************************
Jeroen is correct, different hardware might need different firmware – just like servers.
Here is the OA CLI ‘update show’ command for one of our enclosures with different series fans:
OA-0016355E361D> update show
Device Name Location Version NewVersion
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRAY | BladeSystem c7000 Onboard Administrator Tray | - | 1.7 | 1.7
LCD | BladeSystem c7000 LCD | - | 2.2.2 | 2.2.2
FAN | Active Cool 200a Fan | 2 | 2.1.4 | 2.1.4
FAN | Active Cool 200 Fan | 3 | 2.9.4 | 2.9.4
FAN | Active Cool 200 Fan | 4 | 2.7.4 | 2.7.4
FAN | Active Cool 200a Fan | 5 | 2.7.4 | 2.7.4
FAN | Active Cool 200 Fan | 6 | 2.7.4 | 2.7.4
FAN | Active Cool 200 Fan | 7 | 2.7.4 | 2.7.4
FAN | Active Cool 200 Fan | 8 | 2.7.4 | 2.7.4
FAN | Active Cool 200 Fan | 9 | 2.7.4 | 2.7.4
FAN | Active Cool 200 Fan | 10 | 2.7.4 | 2.7.4
All the fans have up to date firmware – and the 200 series have different version than the 200a series.
We have never had to update the fan firmware versions on any c-Class fan since initial launch in 2006.
