External Modem

I have a HP Blade BL 20p G3 and i need to connect an external modem (US.Robotics) is this possible, i see some serial port on the back of the enclosure but i think that is for management only ?

Please can any one do a suggestion ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: External Modem

Leandro,

The db9 port on the back of the enclosure is not connected to the blades.

You would have to add the dongle to the front of the blade to get a serial or usb port for an external modem or usb remote connection device

I've seen customers do this a couple of times, the main issue is that the rack door may not shut anymore without damaging the dongle connector.

This can be avoided by moving the 19" rack mounting rails inwards/backwards as much as possible.

Re: External Modem

Thanks works fine, the only way to use the com port is from there ?

Re: External Modem

Please note that the SUVI dongle is not intended for permanent attachment and can cause damage to the blade connector, the dongle or both. The best way to get modem connectivity is to provide a LAN/Modem gateway and use a dedicated VLAN from the blade(s) needing it and the modem.
