Help my HBA's don't get the assigned WWN's from Virtual Connect

Hi all,

Hours, days, weeks, .. yes all that time I have been trying to get our new blade + virtual connect environment in the air. So far no luck.

I have a c7000 chassis with 10 BL490's in it. In the chassis I have 2 virtual connect ethernet modules (bay 1 & 2) and 2 virtual connect fibre modules (bay 3 & 4).

I was successful setting up the ethernet side, but fibre is letting me down.

I have 2 Cisco MDS 9216i switches, each with 2 modules, which I want to use to connect my VC's.

Here is how I did my cabling.
VC1 - Port1 -------> Cisco1 / Mod1 / Port 3
VC1 - Port2 -------> Cisco1 / Mod2 / Port 3
VC2 - Port1 -------> Cisco2 / Mod1 / Port 3
VC2 - Port2 -------> Cisco2 / Mod2 / Port 3

Than I created 2 SAN Fabrics in Virtual Connect Manager.
SAN_A consists of VC1 - Port 1 & 2
SAN_B consists of VC2 - Port 1 & 2

Than I created my profiles and added both SAN's to it for redundancy.

Now I was hoping that each blade would get 2 WWID's from virtual connect as specified in my WWN Settings. (Use Virtual Connect assigned WWN addresses). But no luck :(

NPIV has been enabled on the switch.

Anyone has an idea on what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance
Erik

Are your FC HBA cards installed on Mezz slot 1 (on all of your blades.) ???

Mezz slot 1 (and only Mezz 1) maps to interconnect bays 3 & 4.

Re: Help my HBA's don't get the assigned WWN's from Virtual Connect

Hmm.. that was something I was not aware of...
As I'm already at home I can't check it physically but the properties page of one of the blades shows this.

SAN Ports Port Number Adapter Model WWN Connected To
Port 1 MEZZ2 QLogic QMH2462 4Gb FC HBA for HP c-Class BladeSystem Server Factory Default Bay 5 (1)
Port 2 MEZZ2 QLogic QMH2462 4Gb FC HBA for HP c-Class BladeSystem Server Factory Default Bay 6 (1)

So that's my problem than.. seems like the HBA's are in Mezzanine 2

I'll try and switch them tomorrow morning.
Thanks for bringing that up!

Thank you so much!
Clearly the forums are worth more than the lousy HP support where you pay for!
