ILO2 Interface on HP Blade BL460c

ILO2 Interface on HP Blade BL460c

Hi All,

I have found out that there is of course the iLo network on the chassis which all the blades can have an IP Address on.

Can I use this network for management? For example ssh to specific blade directly. Scp files from a specific blade to a customer machine on the iLo network. HTTP access to an application running on one of the blades?

From the viewpoint of the server OS, the iLO2 interface is *not* a network interface, but something else entirely. For the serial remote console functionality, it behaves like a serial port; for virtual media, it presents an USB-connected CDROM/floppy/memory stick.

You can SSH to the iLO command prompt of the specific blade directly, but access to the OS from that point is equivalent of a serial port.

No. There is no OS-visible network interface in the iLO that the scp command could use.

Access to an application, No.

HTTP/HTTPS access to the iLO web interface without going through the OA, yes.

Shalom,

You can ssh to it and control ilo functions.

With an enhanced iLo license you can connect via https and use it as a console, do anything, including OS installations.

Yes , you can put the OA on it's own management network, or leave it connected to your production network.

iLO2 supports HTTP, SSH, and Telnet. Most leave telnet disabled for security reasons.

If you have the Advanced Pack license installed, you can gain more functionality.

Such as:

You can't scp files, but you can mount a USB key as a virtual device and the OS will see it. Once the OS knows it's there then you can copy files to and from the OS running on the server.

Using the Remote Console feature via HTTP, you can have access to the servers GUI console.

When running an ssh session into iLO, you can get a text based console as long as the server isn't running a GUI on the console.
