Limitations Question

To all,

Are there any limitations mixing 4 '465's' and 2 '685' in the same rack? We are in a pinch for floor space and want to put six chassis into a single rack. I've heard that HP only supports up to three chassis in a single rack.

Inquiring minds want to know...

Re: Limitations Question

Hi Chuck,

there is no such limitation.

You can put every combination of server blades if there is space of course...
in other words you can do this, even with c3000...

I have heard same thing. I understand it relates to air-conditioning issues.

Re: Limitations Question

Hi Chuck,

>>Are there any limitations mixing 4 '465's' and 2 '685' in the same rack
-- No there is no such limitation.

>>want to put six chassis into a single rack
-- What is rack height you have? It depends on type of Enclosure , Power and cooling you need.
e.g: c7000 is 10U and max rack height is 42U so at max you can put 4 c7000. If its c3000 then its 6U so you can put 6 but you need enough power to power them on and enough cooling.

hope you get my point. just be specific what you have. Enclosure and rack type?

Re: Limitations Question

Hi,

I assumed that Chuck uses "rack" instead of "enclosure"...and wants to put the 6 servers in a single enclosure(c3000 maybe, because they fit exactly), can be I misunderstood...

Re: Limitations Question

Hi,

it makes sense :)

Checked the c-class Site Planning Guide

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01167165/c01167165.pdf

it doesn't contain info about c3000(due to release date maybe).

In c3000 Setup and installation Guide :

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01167165/c01167165.pdf

On page 8 there is :

"You can install up to seven 6U enclosures in a 42U rack."

For rack-free install it is written to not put enclosures on tiop of another ones.

For rack install nothing is mentioned..can be thermal or heavy load issues, but haven't heard...

Re: Limitations Question

yeah you can use power sizer to check power needed for them below:
http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ActiveAnswers/cache/347628-0-0-0-121.html

And for Hp Bladesystem sizer for ur bladesystem topology:

You need passport id to login and see. just create it takes 1 minute. hope this will help.
