NC542m in bl460c G1 blades
We have recently installed 8x NC542m mezzanines in slot 2 of our bl460c G1 blades are having issues getting them to obtain a network link.
The cards detect fine and are seen by the OS but the virtual connect manager says they are not linked.
Is it possible to use these cards in G1 blades or are they strictly only supported in G6 blades?

Re: NC542m in bl460c G1 blades
Craggy,
While the NC542m cards will fit in the BL460G1's, they are only supported in the G6 and G7 models of the BL460 series as per quickspecs.
You might try updating firmware in the NC542m. Some NICS made by Emulex, Broadcom, QLogic have off-line configuration tools to update firmware and configure the settings.... might be worth a look/try...
Good Luck,
Louis

Re: NC542m in bl460c G1 blades
So I updated the firmware on the nc542m cards using the HP Firmware update DVD 10.10 and once I reset the blades they now show all 8 virtual nics in the Virtual Connect manager.
Only issue now is that the NC360m adapters installed in MEZZ1 of each blade no longer show in Virtual Connect manager and are showing as disconnected in the OS once the blades boot. The NC542m adapters in MEZZ2 are detected properly.
In VC manager this is what I now get:
LOM1: Bay1
LOM2: Bay2
MEZZ2:1-a Bay5
MEZZ2:2:a Bay6
The NC360m adapters in MEZZ1 should point to Bay3 and 4 but these are now missing from VC manager.
Anyone ever seen this happen before?

What I/O interconnects are in bay 3 and 4 on back of your C7000?

Re: NC542m in bl460c G1 blades
Your VC modules ONLY manage FLEX fabric or Flex-10 nics and will also manage Fiber Channel if they are VC fiber connects.
If your VC modules are installed in bay 5 and 6 they will manage Mezz#2 NICs.
If you move the VC modules to bay 3 and 4 for example they would see NC360m NICs but couldn't really manage them and would indicate these as "unmanaged".
the Mezz#1 cards would need 1 GbE passthroughs for connectivity in Bays 3 and 4.
I hope this helps,
Louis

Re: NC542m in bl460c G1 blades
My interconnects in the back are as follows
Bay 1 and 2 are VC 1/10gb
Bay 3 and 4 are VC 1/10gb
Bay 5 and 6 are 6120XG switches.
In my blades I have the following
Onboard# Broadcom 1Gb nics
MEZZ#1 NC360m nics
MEZZ#2 NC542m nics
On blades with older firmware on the NC542m nics the NC360m nics are visible in VC manager on Bays 3 and 4 and can be connected and used fine in the OS.
On blades with the latest firmware on the NC542m nics the NC360m nics are missing from VC manager and only bays 1,2,4 and 5 appear as manageable. Bay's 3 and 4 are missing and the nics are in a disconnected state once the OS is booted.
