Optimal way of installing six or eight half height Blades into a C7000 enclosure?

I would like to know if there is an optimal way of installing six or eight half height Blades into a C7000 enclosure. My questions are:

 

  1. Should you use both top and bottom shelves and split the Blades equally within the enclosure?
  2. What do you gain here other than leaving slots free for potentially full height Blades?
  3. Do you increase your Single Point of Failure (SPOF) if you only use the top or bottom shelf?

If you place all six or eight servers in the left side of the enclosure (bays 1-4 and 9-12), you can provide full cooling with the six fan rule (fans in bays 3,4,5,8,9,10) and fewer power supplies which would save some infrastructure cost. 

 

The amortized cost for the interconnects increases as you have quite a few unused ports.

 

The midplane connects all bays, so no change to fault domains.
