Overheat - Affects on Hardware?

We had a chiller go out in our Data Center and it got really hot. One Itanium Blade running HP-UX shutdown as a result. The envd shut it down due to temperature.

What are the long term affects of hardware when it overheats? or max temp threshold reached? Can their be lingering affects on the stresses from the heat?

Re: Overheat - Affects on Hardware?

Ken,

Short answer is keep an eye on it. I've seen servers recover from an overheat shutdown with no ill effects and I've had to replace others.

If the diags come through clean, you still need to keep an eye on it for a while. I'd say if it lasts for a month or so with no flakiness you're probably out of the woods.

I know, not the answer you're looking for... :)

Re: Overheat - Affects on Hardware?

Thanks.

It's a production blade and we were considering being proactive and trying to not have it go bad on us and bringing things down during the day. We've even considered using insurance and getting a new blade to replace it just to be safe and avoid any outages.
