Proper way to Cluster Heartbeat across 2 C3000 chassis

We have 2 C3000 blade chassis's we are using to create a 16-node cluster with and we are trying to figure out the proper way to connect a heartbeat cable between the 2 chassis's. Each chassis has an HP 1/10Gb-F VC-Enet Module that has 4 external ports. At first glance one would think you could just connect an ethernet cable between the two chassis's using one of the 4 ports. We tried this and when we were building the blades they could not get a DHCP address from the DHCP server. As soon as we disconnected the "heartbeat" cable, all worked fine. The other 3 ports are each connected into a Cisco 6500 series switch.
