Thermal shutdown threshold for BL20p

Hi,

I have 100 BL20P servers in data center. My DC environment temp is around 20 degree Celsius and rack temp is around 25 degree Celsius.

I would like to know the threshold for thermal shutdown and what is the ideal environment and rack temp for blade server. When the server is running is it possible to get the temperature for each server??

Re: Thermal shutdown threshold for BL20p

Hi
You can use HP Systems Insight Manager to monitor their temperature sensors status. Even without HP SIM, if you have management agents installed, with Web Agent running, you can connect to these servers using Web Browser and check their status.

Re: Thermal shutdown threshold for BL20p

Hi,

Thanks for the info. :) I also need to know if there is any document from HP that state the optimum temperature on environment and rack for blade servers to operate.

Re: Thermal shutdown threshold for BL20p

Data like that can be found in the QuickSpecs for each server. It's pretty consistent, but there are some variations depending on model. Here is for the BL20pG4:

Temperature Range*
Operating 10°C to 35°C (50°F to 95°F)
Non-Operating -40°C to 60°C (-40°F to 140°F)
Storage -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F)
Maximum Wet Bulb Temperature -30°C (86°F)

Relative Humidity**
Operating 10% to 90%
Shipping 10% to 90%
Storage 10% to 95%

*NOTE: All temperature ratings shown are for sea level. An altitude derating of 1°C per 304.8 m (1.8°F per 1,000 ft) to 3048 m (10,000 ft) is applicable. No direct sunlight allowed. Upper operating limit is 3,048m (10,000 ft) or 70 Kpa/10.1 psia. Upper non-operating limit is 9,144 m (30,000 ft) or 30.3 KPa/4.4 psia.

**NOTE: Storage maximum humidity of 95% is based on a maximum temperature of 45°C (113°F). Altitude maximum for storage corresponds to a pressure minimum of 70 KPa.
