Trouble Connecting to Onboard Administrator CLI via Serial Console

I am having trouble connecting to the OA's CLI via the serial console. I have no problem connecting to the GUI web interface and no problem connecting to the CLI over SSH. However, when using PuTTY from Windows, I am unable to view the CLI. I followed the connection instructions explicitly stated in the CLI User Guide for local access to the OA.

When I connect to the OA, I see nothing and get no prompt. However I get a bunch of garbage ASCII data when I restart the OA. What might be causing this issue? How can I access the Onboard Administrator CLI from a serial console?

usually the wrong baud rate.

Defaults:

Parameter                                   Value
Transmission rate                           9600 bps
Data bits                                           8
Parity                                               None
Stop bits                                            1
Protocol                                            None

Maybe someone has changed it?

Why not using the service LAN port? Just set the PC to DHCP, connect to the service port and connect to the IP shown at the front panel.

Hope this helps!

Re: Trouble Connecting to Onboard Administrator CLI via Serial Console

I thought it seemed like a baud rate issue, but no one has changed that baud rate. Everything is set to factory defaults. I am able to connect to the CLI through SSH, but I need to be able to connect using the serial console.

Re: Trouble Connecting to Onboard Administrator CLI via Serial Console

Check the settings in the Interconnect Bay Information tab in GUI.

Set it

> SET SERIAL BAUD  9600

What do you need to do?

Hope this helps!

Re: Trouble Connecting to Onboard Administrator CLI via Serial Console

I ran SET SERIAL BAUD 9600 and confirmed that the baud rate is in fact 9600. I'm still getting the same behavior.

Something wrong with your converter or cable? Using a null-modem cable?

Hope this helps!

Re: Trouble Connecting to Onboard Administrator CLI via Serial Console

I'm using a serial-to-ethernet cable connected to ethernet-to-serial. Is it possible that this is the issue?

Thanks for all the help! It was just a bad cable. The issue is resolved.
