Unable to see redundent FC port in bl680c full height server

Hi,

We have a c7000 enclosure bl680c full height server with windows 2003 server OS. Two HBA card in the server. The problem is in OA portmap we can see only two FC port showing. Logically it should show 4 path with redundent.
Plz hlep us how can we see the remaining two path.

Thanks

No 2 FC switch. One redundent another. For your information in that enclosure 4 bl460c G5 half height server and each server has one FC card. For these sever we can see two fc port in OA with redundent. So for full height server it show 4 fc port. but we can see only 2 port for both full and half server. this is the problem actually.

Re: Unable to see redundent FC port in bl680c full height server

Hi Mahamudul,

pls have a look at the port mapping for half and full height blade servers and you will understand why you are missing the two FC ports, you are basically missing a second pair of the fibre interconnects.
The second FC mezz. card in your C7000 enclosure has no interconnect the ports are mapped to, remember this is hardwired in the midplane of the enclosure.

See page 17/18 in this doc:

Re: Unable to see redundent FC port in bl680c full height server

Kris, I think your'e mistaken.
Mahamadul describes four paths to the storage, not for ports

The full-height blade has mezzanine with two FC HBA ports
each connected to a FC switch on a separate fabric.
each fabric has two connections to a redundant controller.
All (both half and full height blades) Mezzanine-1 cards have port1 and 2 connected to switch-bay 3 and 4.
Same for mezzanine-2 cards port1 and 2 to switch-bay 5 and 6.
so there must be four paths to a volume!

I think Mahamadul needs to check the zoning on the fabric to make sure both FC ports of the blade are allowed to connect to the storage controller.

Re: Unable to see redundent FC port in bl680c full height server

Hi Mahamudul,

thanks for the screenshot. If you look at page 18 figure 10 in the manual i posted the URL for, or in the OA GUI, you can see that the FC mezz card in slot 3 (which is a dual port mezz card) maps to bay 7&8 where there are no interconnect modules. The color code being used (blue diamond) should clarify you where the ports of the third mezz slot map to.
So you are missing FC interconnects in bay 7&8 as i mentioned.

The port mapping between half and full height is not the same, due to more mezz cards. The port mapping between dual and four port mezz cards is also different. FC cards are only 2 port at this time, LAN card can be 2 or 4 port.
The ports occupied in bay 7&8 will be ports 2, not 10. The calculation that brings you to port 10 is correct when it concerns 4 port mezz cards like the ones you have in mezz slot 1 (bay number = 2 (+8) = port 10)
but not for dual port cards.

Carefully look at the color codes used in the documentation and the mezz. card port numbes, then it will be clear to you.

Re: Unable to see redundent FC port in bl680c full height server

Mahamudul,

Does this diagram help?

There are no 4 port HBA cards, so can you see that the only way you can get 4 HBA ports is with two 2 port cards and 4 FC switches?
