Virtual Connect - Multiple links with no LACP or VLAN tagging

Anyone know what happens to the 2nd link to a switch when you connect a port on a VC to a different switch then connect a third connection from one VC to one of the existing switches and all 3 are part of the same VC network uplink set with several profiles attached and smart link is on?
No LACP enabled on the switch and no VLAN tagging going on.

Does it become standby like the one on the other switch and only kick in if the other 2 are down or does it do some sort of load balancing or round/robin?

If all 3 are in the same network then only 1 will be active. The other 2 will be standby. This is dictated by VC regardless of how many switches they connect to. No load balancing or round robin without LACP.

Thought so. But had delays getting clarification from HP.
Thanks
