Windows 2008 : from HDD RAID to Boot-from-SAN ?
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to migrate a Windows 2008 Std partition from a HDD RAID volume to a SAN boot volume as I don't want to reinstall this OS (if possible)
multipath drivers are already installed as this OS already use SAN volumes (but not for boot)
is it possible ? and how ?
I tried with snapshot tool but the resulting partition isn't bootable
thank you for your help as I really don't want to reinstall this AD server.
Aurelien

Re: Windows 2008 : from HDD RAID to Boot-from-SAN ?
- It's essentially the same as a P2P process.
Take an offline system image using ShadowProtect or BackupExec System Recovery (sv2i format)
Present a boot LUN larger than the original image size to the host as LUN 0. Boot the System Recovery Disk of ShadowProtect or BackupExec System Recovery. Then follow the standard restore procedure.
** you may want to inject the appropriate Boot-From-SAN miniport/storport driver package from your HBA vendor, Qlogic or otherwise.
