accessing dvd on BL860 server blade

We have recently acquired a BL860c server blade in a C3000 blade enclosure. There is a DVD in the enclosure and, through the Onboard Administrator, I have connected the DVD drive to the blade. I want to now see what is on the DVD, but when I do an ioscan I don't see any entries for the DVD. Without the device name, I don't know how to mount the drive and access the data. We are running HP-UX 11.23. I have searched ITRC but am not having any luck finding documentation to help.

Re: accessing dvd on BL860 server blade

Please check your firmware versions:
- enclosure's Onboard Administrator firmware
- blade's iLO/MP firmware

If the OS was installed using mid-2007 or later media release, it should have the necessary media support patches included. If you used an earlier media, some patching may be required.

Re: accessing dvd on BL860 server blade

If there was no drive present during the installation, the driver is not included in the kernel.
Do you see any UNKNOWN entries in your ioscan?

Hope this helps!

Re: accessing dvd on BL860 server blade

I upgraded both the OA and the ILO-MP firmware. The current versions are:
Firmware Revisions:
iLO MP: T.02.17
BMC: 05.20
EFI: ROM A 05.67, ROM B 06.20
System Firmware: ROM A 01.01, ROM B 03.01, Boot ROM B
PDH: 50.07
UCIO: 03.0b
PRS: 00.08 UpSeqRev: 02, DownSeqRev: 05

OA Firmware: 2.10

And the OS was loaded onto the blade prior to the DVD being installed in the enclosure. The blade had been in a different enclosure (C7000) but we bought a C3000 with a DVD and put the blade into it. The ioscan doesn't show anything as UNCLAIMED.

Re: accessing dvd on BL860 server blade

Did you assign the DVD drive to the blade?
Could you post the ioscan -fn?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: accessing dvd on BL860 server blade

ioscan -fn

would be better!

What is this?

disk 2 0/0/2/0.0.16.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP

Connected to USB and not a SAS disk?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: accessing dvd on BL860 server blade

It looks like I overlooked a line in the ioscan output:

unknown -1 0/0/2/0.0.1 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN OO Device Driver

Could this be from the DVD in the C3000 enclosure? If so, I don't know how to find the driver to install in the kernel. Any help would be appreciated? The DVD came with the enclosure and I have no paperwork on it. I could try to pull it out if I need the model number, but that would take some time and effort, so if I can avoid that to resolve the problem, I would rather not pull it out.

Re: accessing dvd on BL860 server blade

That was the DVD on the ioscan output that you mentioned. I ran an insf -e H blah blah and was able to mount the DVD and read it.

Thanks.
