connecting BL860c to an External Storage

How can I connect BL860C to an external storage... something like a EMC Clarion...

Do I also need Cisco MDS 9142 switch...

or can I connect this Clarion directly to the Cisco 3020 switch provided with the Blade Enclosure...

Re: connecting BL860c to an External Storage

First you need to have fiber channel mezzanine cards installed on the server board and a fc switch in the enclosure. Now you can connect and configure this switch and the array.

Hope this helps!

Re: connecting BL860c to an External Storage

I already have the mezzanine cards in the Blades...

My Issue is with the switch which needs to be configured...

fc1/1 is down (Error disabled - bit error rate too high)
Hardware is Fibre Channel, SFP is short wave laser w/o OFC (SN)
Port WWN is 20:01:00:0d:ec:68:80:00
Admin port mode is auto, trunk mode is on
snmp link state traps are enabled
Port vsan is 1
Receive data field Size is 2112
Beacon is turned off
5 minutes input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 bytes/sec, 0 frames/sec
5 minutes output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 bytes/sec, 0 frames/sec
977 frames input, 39504 bytes
0 discards, 1 errors
0 CRC, 0 unknown class
0 too long, 1 too short
22 frames output, 1356 bytes
0 discards, 0 errors
1 input OLS, 1 LRR, 0 NOS, 5 loop inits
2 output OLS, 0 LRR, 0 NOS, 1 loop inits

I did some google on this... but couldn't find much

Re: connecting BL860c to an External Storage

I have found the following Info...

Error Message PORT-5-IF_DOWN_BIT_ERR_RT_THRES_EXCEEDED: Interface [chars] is down (Error disabled - bit error rate too high)

Explanation The port has detected too high bit error rate in frames received from attached device

Recommended Action Check the attached device; replace it if needed

But as of Now only the storage Clarion is connected to the Switch MDS 9124. I haven't connected the switch to the blade yet....

It is all working now

fc1/3 is up
Hardware is Fibre Channel, SFP is short wave laser w/o OFC (SN
Port WWN is 20:03:00:0d:ec:68:80:00
Admin port mode is auto, trunk mode is on
snmp link state traps are enabled
Port mode is F, FCID is 0xae0100
Port vsan is 1
Speed is 2 Gbps
Rate mode is dedicated
Transmit B2B Credit is 8
Receive B2B Credit is 16
Receive data field Size is 2112
Beacon is turned off
5 minutes input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 bytes/sec, 0 frames/sec

Re: connecting BL860c to an External Storage

I have connected fc1/9 to the HP 4GB fiber channel Pass-through Module

And the blade is not recognizing the luns

Re: connecting BL860c to an External Storage

The pWWN address of the blade port needs to be zoned in the same zone (of the given Cisco MDS VLAN) as the WWN address of the Clarion LUN.

1. Verify the blade port & the Clarion LUN are both logging into the SAN switch.

2. Put both in the same zone.

For the blade's FC HBA to login correctly you need the right QLogic or Emulex driver, fw and BIOS on the card.

Contact the HP SAN Switch team for further details, or reply back with the OS version & the FC HBA model (Emulex LPe1105 or QLA2462).
