Do I also need Cisco MDS 9142 switch...
or can I connect this Clarion directly to the Cisco 3020 switch provided with the Blade Enclosure...

Port WWN is 20:01:00:0d:ec:68:80:00
Admin port mode is auto, trunk mode is on
snmp link state traps are enabled
Port vsan is 1
Receive data field Size is 2112
Beacon is turned off
5 minutes input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 bytes/sec, 0 frames/sec
5 minutes output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 bytes/sec, 0 frames/sec
977 frames input, 39504 bytes
0 discards, 1 errors
0 CRC, 0 unknown class
0 too long, 1 too short
22 frames output, 1356 bytes
0 discards, 0 errors

Re: connecting BL860c to an External Storage
Error Message PORT-5-IF_DOWN_BIT_ERR_RT_THRES_EXCEEDED: Interface [chars] is down (Error disabled - bit error rate too high)
Explanation The port has detected too high bit error rate in frames received from attached device
Recommended Action Check the attached device; replace it if needed
But as of Now only the storage Clarion is connected to the Switch MDS 9124. I haven't connected the switch to the blade yet....

Re: connecting BL860c to an External Storage
1. Verify the blade port & the Clarion LUN are both logging into the SAN switch.
2. Put both in the same zone.
For the blade's FC HBA to login correctly you need the right QLogic or Emulex driver, fw and BIOS on the card.
Contact the HP SAN Switch team for further details, or reply back with the OS version & the FC HBA model (Emulex LPe1105 or QLA2462).
