My server (bl860c in c7000) was powered up but had no internal drives. The DVD drive appeared in the map, however I could not see any EFI partition, therefore I assume the internal disk is needed for that.
The DVD drive had OpenVMS 8.3-1H1 installation CD in it.
I am trying to move some FW update files into the EFI partition so that I can upgrade the FW.
I figured that I could write them to a cd and put this CD in the DVD drive, then just move the files to the correct location in the EFI partition.
I returned to my enclosure, installed the internal drive, and replaced the OpenVMS CD with a regular CD containing the upgrade files.
I then reset the server and took a look at the map. I can now see the internal drive (fs0:) but the DVD has disappeared.
I have connected the DVD to bay 1 at the OA, and is shows as connected both under Enclosure settings, and under Device Bay 1, (Virtual Devices)
How do I get the DVD Back???
Second question. on the iLo2, under Virtual Media, I see, "Status: Max vMedia number has been reached." What does this mean??
Thanks
Dave.

SolutionAnd when You connect the dvd drive through OA and not from local I/O connector the dvd is really a virtual media mounted so You can't use another virtual media session to blade.

Re: lost connection to USB DVD drive.
Thanks for your help. It seems that the CD must be boot-able. I had thought of that earlier today, but I thought it was so ridiculous that it couldnt be true. Just goes to show!
In the words of Sherlock Holmes...
"When all logical possibilities have been ruled out, then whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."
thanks
